Artist of The Year

Thanks to everyone who voted for me.

category.
BIO – Sept. 05
Fresh from a rather prestigious CCMA Kick-Off Party showcase performance at
Heritage Park in Calgary, Heather Dawn is poised to pursue another chapter in
her global musical quest. Her powerhouse vocals during Country Music Week impressed
many industry insiders, including some of the major market radio programmers.
Heather Dawn’s 2003 debut was one of the few indie singles in recent
years to make an impressive impact on the major market-driven national charts,
peeking at number 21 on the BDS chart. The widespread radio response to ‘Beautiful
People’ led to her first CCMA nomination in 2004 for Independent Female
Artist of the year. That same year she also attained a final round Country Artist
nod during Canadian Music Week in Toronto, based on her radio spins across the
country.
Subsequent radio singles from Heather’s Beautiful People CD (and CMT
video play) translated into her second consecutive best CCMA Independent Female
Artist nomination in 2005, making her one of the most played aspiring new country
artists in Canada. Beautiful People is one of the big hits included on the new
CJVR fm Baker’s Dozen CD, a tribute to artists from Saskatchewan.
For this Westerose, Alberta-based performer, the recent national recognition
has been a tremendous source of encouragement. According to Heather, “Those
nominations with my peers have been a dream come true for me inspiring me to
keep going. While performing live for the fans, the best part is seeing them
sing along to my songs.”
Those crystal-clear vocals from this proud mother of two have resulted into
some positive national press, and have excited a few key team players along
the way. “Heather is one of the best new voices in country music”,
according to her first manager Louis O’Reilly who was also impressed with
her sparkling personality.
Respected producer Bart McKay was drawn to her pure and natural voice. “I
love the sound of her voice”, states McKay. “It’s easy for
her to make the songs sound so good and bring them to life with ease. She is
very natural.”
National radio representative Paul Kennedy was immediately knocked out by Heather’s
heartfelt vocals. “ Heather has one of the finest and strongest voices
anywhere…she nails the songs on her debut CD.”
Heather Dawn really enjoys interacting with her fans at her concerts. “They
all have stories and have been touched in so many different ways” she
beams. “I love putting a smile on their faces
and truly telling them thank you for their support.”
One of Heather’s favourite dream gigs happened recently in Weyburn, Saskatchewan
when she opened a concert for Derek Ruttan and Paul Brandt. Brandt is one of
the artists she most admires for staying true to his beliefs from album to album.
She also greatly respects Carolyn Dawn Johnson and George Canyon for not allowing
widespread fame to go the their heads.
Heather’s ultimate goal is to perform someday on the Grand Ole Opry.
In the meantime, she transports to and from her Prairie performances in her
new Durango, courtesy of Pioneer Crysler Jeep in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. Her Jeep
television spot has helped generate an important presence in her home province.
Heather is more than ready to sing her songs from coast to coast, since performing
live is something she thoroughly enjoys. “I feel alive and free when I
am on stage”, Heather enthuses. “The best part for me is helping
make everyone have a really great time after a long stressful day.”
There’s a good chance that even more country fans will have the opportunity
soon to hear this Prairie farm-girl sing her songs. Just as her Top 20 hit single
Beautiful People talked about being natural and staying true to yourself, Heather
Dawn hopes to take her gift of song and down to earth charm to even more fans
in the near future. The word is getting around … Heather Dawn is one exceptional
vocalist
